Designing an app for African cities
Product Team
Rydsom
From patchy data to cash payments, here's how we built Rydsom for the way our cities really move.
Building a ride-hailing app for Malawi and Zambia means designing for reality, not a Silicon Valley boardroom. That reality includes variable data speeds, cash-first payments and streets that maps don't always know well.
So we made Rydsom light and fast, able to work smoothly even on slower connections. We put cash, card and mobile money side by side, because choice matters. And we invested in local mapping so pickups and drop-offs actually make sense on the ground.
Great design isn't about copying what works elsewhere. It's about listening closely to the people you serve and building exactly what they need. That's the work we're proud to do every day.
